The reduction rule

Take the birth month (1-12), day (1-31) and year, and reduce each one on its own: keep adding its digits together until only a single digit remains, unless the running total lands exactly on 11, 22 or 33, a "master number," in which case reduction stops there. Add the three reduced results together, then apply the same reduction rule one final time to get the Life Path Number.

Two ways to sum, not always one answer

Some numerology sources describe adding every digit of the full date at once instead of reducing month, day and year separately first. For December 12, 1975 both methods land on 1. But the two methods are not generally equivalent: keeping a master number (11, 22 or 33) unreduced at one stage instead of continuing to add its digits changes the total that gets carried forward, so the two groupings can diverge whenever a master number shows up along the way. November 14, 2004 is one example: reducing separately gives month 11 (already a master number) + day 5 + year 6 = 22, itself a master number, so the Life Path is 22 — but summing every digit of 11/14/2004 at once (1+1+1+4+2+0+0+4=13) reduces to 4 instead. This calculator always uses the reduce-separately method, since it is the one most numerology references document step by step, and does not claim the two methods always agree.
